Assistant/Associate General Counsel - Employment Responsibilities: Review, draft and negotiate various contracts and agreements, including employment, independent contractor, and staffing agreements. In collaboration with counsel in the department, provide advice and counsel on the employment component in diverse areas of health care practice, including compliance and regulatory matters, corporate and commercial transactions, governance, and health care financial matters. Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with business partners; become an organizational leader and a trusted advisor. Proactively monitor and provide guidance and counsel with respect to industry trends, and state, city, and national regulatory developments. Specific experience with New York State and City laws preferred. Collaborate with labor relations professionals to assess and analyze issues arising between the Medical Center and various bargaining units. Effectively work with and manage outside counsel to ensure outside counsel is representing the Medical Center in a manner which maintains the reputation of the organization while advancing strategic goals. Serve as a resource to all Human Resources management to ensure legal compliance in meeting strategic goals.

Qualifications: JD degree from an accredited law school and currently licensed as an attorney. Active member of the New York Bar, or eligible to become either a member of the New York Bar or New York Registered In-House Counsel. 5-10 years of employment law experience representing hospitals, integrated health care systems, and/or health care provider groups with significant numbers of employed and/or contracted physicians. Significant experience with contract review, drafting and negotiation including labor and employment issues in the context of commercial transactions Excellent academic record and experience at a respected law firm and/or in-house. Demonstrated understanding of New York State and City employment law issues. Demonstrated understanding of the National Labor Relations Act. Demonstrated understanding of physician/hospital relationships. Experience with employee benefits and immigration preferred.
