Assistant General Counsel, Customs and International Trade

Assistant General Counsel, Customs and International Trade Duties: Work with business partners around the globe on Customs Valuation (including transfer pricing, first sale for export, and treatment of royalties, commissions, and R&D); Customs Classification; and Special Trade Programs. Partner with Nike Global Trade and Customs Operations, local country Trade and Customs Operations teams, Tax, and other impacted business functions on audits and investigations by Customs and other governmental authorities that regulate trade remedies (anti-dumping duties, countervailing duties, and safeguards). Manage outside counsel and other legal service providers, ensuring that their level of investment is appropriate to the risk, impact, and immediacy of the need. Apply expertise to guide businesses as they deal with market access, trade sanctions, and cargo security issues. Advise on legal, strategic, and compliance issues, provide analysis of legal risks, implement processes to ensure compliance, and help a variety of business functions including Trade and Customs Operations functions, Trading Company, Marketplace Operations, Global Sourcing and Manufacturing, Converse, and others to understand the importance and value of maintaining the highest business integrity. Engage with Government and Public Affairs team, trade associations, and government agencies to monitor and advise on emerging legal and trade policy issues. May also assist or advise on internal investigations. Speak to groups of internal employees and external business partners to educate them on legal and compliance issues.

Qualifications: Juris Doctorate from a well-respected US law school, or it's equivalent from a leading non-US institution. Member, in good standing, of at least one US State Bar and the willingness to meet the requirements of membership in the Oregon State Bar through in-house counsel, reciprocity, or other avenues. Should have 5-7 years of work experience in the practice of Customs and International Trade Law with a law firm or in a senior government position or a corporate legal department with a focus on several of the specialty areas in Customs and customs compliance; Trade remedies; Trade sanctions; Supply chain and third-party due diligence; and Subject matter competency in the general corporate, supply chain, complex transactions, and negotiations. Bilingual is a plus, Mandarin is preferred.
