Senior Director, Legal Counsel - Employment Law Duties: In consultation with appropriate Law Department leadership, retain, oversee, and manage the work of outside counsel on employment matters, and ensure adherence to outside counsel budget. Recommend operational plans and strategies that directly impact the achievement of overall results for multiple departments and company-wide results, profitability, and/or public image of the organization. Under the direction of the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Litigation, support and coordinate legal services required by the Human Resources Department as an integral member of their leadership team. In consultation with the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Litigation and the SVP/GC, establish legal policy and standards for the enterprise, and for the business and functional units served by the AGC. Defend in employment litigation, pre-litigation matters, and agency complaints with a high degree of independence. Be a subject matter expert, providing timely, actionable, and accurate legal advice, counsel, and training on state, local, and federal employment law. Partner with Human Resources and company leadership to create and implement compliant policies that enable the business to achieve its goals within a prudent range of legal risk. Navigate complex employment law issues in real time, providing actionable legal advice and risk assessments on wage and hour law, employee relations, investigations, benefits, ERISA compliance, compensation, leave and accommodations issues, employment disputes, employment issues arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic, and diversity, equity, and inclusion policies. Manage other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications: Juris Doctorate Degree. Active California State Bar membership and superior academic credentials from a top-tier law school. 10+ years of experience providing legal advice on relevant areas of the law (e.g., corporate, privacy, health care regulatory, litigation, contracts, et al) at a top law firm or in-house corporate law department. 7+ years of experience defending employers in litigation and responding to agency (DFEH, EEOC) complaints at a top law firm or in-house corporate law department. 5+ years of recent experience advising and counseling business clients on evolving local, California and federal laws impacting employers, employees, and workplaces.
