Senior Counsel, Safety and Insurance Litigation, US West The candidate will manage a team of counsel who are dedicated to managing Safety and Insurance Litigation portfolios in the Southwest Region states. Manage a portfolio of claims and litigation in the Southwest Region. Provide guidance to outside counsel on case strategy. Draft and review various court documents such as pleadings, discovery, and motions. Work across our business and legal teams on risk management initiatives. Collaborate with team members for operational efficiency and process revision. Partner with the global insurance law team on insurance coverages and regulatory efforts.

The candidate should have 8+ years of experience in private practice and/or in-house. Member of the bar in one State. In-house experience strongly preferred, with the know-how to manage a case through pleadings, motion practice, discovery, dispute resolution and trial (both state and federal) are preferred. Management or supervisory experience over other attorneys is preferred. Membership of the state bar of CA, AZ, or NM is preferred. Solid case evaluation abilities, critical thinking skills and the capacity to oversee a large portfolio of matters, including high severity, are preferred. First chair mediation, arbitration, and/or trial experience preferred. Extensive deposition experience, including presenting both lay and expert witnesses preferred. Experience working with insurance carriers, reviewing policy language, and issue-spotting from a risk perspective is preferred. Strong academic credentials and a law degree from a top law school. Joint JD/MBA holders preferred. Possess excellent business judgment, communication and interpersonal skills.
