Corporate Counsel The candidate drafts, reviews, and negotiates a broad range of commercial agreements, amendments, and terminations pertaining to day-to-day/routine and complex transactions. Develops, documents and/or updates Hostess Brands' templates, business practices, processes, and policies to reflect legal requirements or industry best practices and provides training across the company. Provides timely, sound legal advice that identifies and analyzes options that mitigate risk and support the organization's long-term business goals and objectives. Monitors developments in applicable areas of the law, including employment law areas such as Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disability Act (ADA), Title VII, I-9, and state laws, and provides advice and training with respect to relevant changes and trends. Advises on leave of absence and accommodation issues, as well as matters relating to allegations of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Assists with management of outside counsel on various matters, including state and federal employment-related administrative charges, demand letters, claims, and litigation, to ensure high-quality, cost-effective service. Responds to the evolving needs of a fast-growing company and proactively solves problems.

The candidate should have 5 years of experience in a top-tier law firm and/or corporate legal department. Bachelor's degree and a Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school is required. A member in good standing of any State Bar. If not already admitted in Kansas, a Kansas in-house bar admission will need to be obtained. Experience with a consumer packaged goods (CPG) company or small-sized corporate legal department preferred. Experience with employment law preferred. Experience with data privacy laws or Canadian law is a plus. Ability to work independently yet understand and collaborate in fulfilling corporate imperatives while delivering superior internal client service. Exceptional planning, organizational and follow-up skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize and manage multiple projects/tasks with sensitive deadlines in a changing environment. Strong oral and written communication skills, business judgment and analytical abilities. Complex problem-solving skills combined with strategic decision-making that includes an understanding of the business. Ability to apply legal reasoning and theories in a practical manner with a view to finding viable business solutions with acceptable risk profiles. Negotiation skills with the ability to influence others to identify and create mutually beneficial agreements. Ability to perform legal research and identify when to consult with outside counsel on legal strategies for particular issues. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization in a professional and collaborative manner. High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
