Corporate Counsel - Data Privacy And Information Governance Duties: Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop SVB's data policies, practices, and strategies. Advise business teams on a range of legal and regulatory issues related to the collection, sharing, handling, retention, destruction, production, and protection of data via a range of modalities and across multiple geographies. Actively collaborate with colleagues across a spectrum of disciplines including commercial and consumer bankers, product management teams, strategic partnerships, risk and compliance officers, and operational teams, all working at the intersection of finance, technology, and design. In addition, provide meaningful and engaged contributions to SVB Legal's ongoing commitment to developing best-in-class practices. Also, work closely with Legal colleagues and outside counsel in non-US jurisdictions, including EMEA, China, Canada, and India. Qualifications: J.D. from a top-tier school and excellent academic credentials. Admission to a State Bar in the United States with a preference for the NY or CA Bars, if licensed in another State Bar and residing in CA, eligible to register as in-house counsel in CA. 3-7 years of relevant legal and on-the-job experience, either at a top-tier law firm or in-house. Strong professional references, especially from the current employer. Flexibility, empathy, and adaptability, will allow collaboration effectively with colleagues in Legal, the business, and the compliance and risk functions to implement practical, risk-calibrated solutions. A willingness to roll up sleeves to build the operational infrastructure that is part of building a business is essential. Proven capability and familiarity with privacy laws including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and GLBA, with an established track record of developing commercially-minded solutions for complex businesses.
