Employment Counsel

Employment Counsel The candidate will provide counseling and support for recruiting, employment, employee relations, and performance management, equity, and compensation/benefits matters. Will partner with people operations and recruiting teams, serving as an employment law expert and resource, providing day-to-day advice on a range of employment issues. Serve as legal domain expert for best practices in employee onboarding and off-boarding. Proactively review employment policies to ensure legal compliance and consistency with best practices. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support and maintain employment compliance. Partner with people operations to build processes and resources that enable the people-focused teams to scale, including up-to-date internal resources, templates, and playbooks for cross-functional partners. Draft, revise, and update employment, equity, and benefits-related documentation and agreements. Manage equity options plan, which includes grants and issuance, and exercises. Highlight developing legal requirements including identifying and addressing employment legal risks and potential legal risks to the business. Partner with People Operations to create and deliver training related to employment law matters, such as harassment training and other training on a variety of topics. Manage employment litigation including strategy, discovery, drafting, and coordination with external counsel.

The candidate should have a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to the California or New York Bar, or the ability to be registered as in-house counsel in California or New York. Must have 6+ years combined experience practicing as an employment attorney within a law firm and in-house. Deep subject matter expertise in employment law with a sense of practical application is required. Experience with state and federal employment law and advising and counseling on such laws is needed. Must have knowledge of privacy regulations with respect to employee data and the ability to incorporate and revise those evolving requirements into human resources-related practices. Prior experience with a fast-growing technology company or investment manager is preferred. Familiarity with employment laws within a variety of state as well as federal jurisdictions is a plus. Familiarity with laws related to equity and benefits within a variety of state as well as federal jurisdictions is preferred.
