Counsel - Fuels Policy and Compliance Law Duties: Provides legal counsel and support to Valero management and other in-house clients regarding regulatory compliance obligations and liability management. Represents the company before regulatory agencies in matters involving rulemaking, enforcement, and other matters. Selects and manages outside counsel representing Valero in administrative hearings or other legal proceedings, and where appropriate, appear directly as counsel. Holds or develops expertise in regulatory programs that relate to federal and state regulation of fuels, with an understanding of administrative and Constitutional law as it relates to proposed legislation and regulations. Investigates and evaluate potential claims by the company, where appropriate. Receives and properly handle all matters for which Valero receives service of process. Coordinates discovery and other document discovery including the preparation of witnesses and the collection of documents and other information. Supports and undertakes other legal work, including litigation, investigations, emergency response, and commercial activities as requested by management.

Qualifications: Bachelor's or higher-level degree in a related field required. Law degree required from an accredited law school is required. Admitted to the practice of law in Texas or other relevant state or be otherwise eligible to practice law in such state required. 5 years experience in legal practice is required. Experience analyzing, interpreting, counseling and advocating complex international and domestic law issues required. Experience in relevant function with another major public corporation or a law firm preferred. Superior written communication skills are required.
