Legal Counsel - Litigation Duties: Provides advice and counsel on litigation matters, including broker/dealer FINRA arbitrations, sales practice litigation cases, and class actions, related to the company's businesses. Conducts internal investigations pertaining to litigation, arbitration, and compliance matters. Promotes best practice and process relating to eDiscovery and the use of legal technology. Identifies and communicates legal exposure and risk in a timely and proactive manner to internal key stakeholders. Drafts comment letters, legal briefs, motions, fact sheets, and reports. Maintains knowledge and interprets changes and trends in government and legislative matters at the federal, state, and local level. Determines company impact and advises senior management accordingly. Partners with finance, operations and business unit leadership to provide information necessary to effectively set litigation budgets and reserves. Directs outside litigation counsel as appropriate, including development of alternative fee arrangements and actively managing outside litigation counsel budget/spend. Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area(s) of responsibility, assesses the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions. Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.Identifies and directs the implementation of process improvements that significantly improve quality across the team, department and/or business unit for their assigned area(s) of responsibility. Provides subject matter expertise to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects for their assigned area(s) of responsibility. Provides direction on complex assignments, projects, and/or initiatives to build and enhance the capability of their assigned area(s) of responsibility. Qualifications: Four-year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's). Should have 5+ Years of experience as an attorney that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position. Preferred Qualifications: In-depth knowledge of the legislative and regulatory process, rules, and protocols governing those processes. Knowledge of eDiscovery best practices and processes, and of legal technology issues. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Demonstrated strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g., senior management, peers and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative style. Demonstrated ability to manage complex litigation matters. Ability to work with others in a team environment.
