VP, Litigation Counsel Responsibilities: Ensures that performance objectives at all organizational levels support the team's strategic and operational plans. Creates and maintains strategic clarity and links rewards to achievement of goals. Drives a culture of continuous improvement involving CNA's people, processes and technology through disciplined measures of performance, including quality, compliance and productivity. Continuously assesses and works to improve productivity and triage, segment and assigns work to ensure appropriate utilization of resources, i.e., attorney, paralegal, assistants, and/or vendors. Works with senior claim colleagues to ensure the right cases are assigned to the right lawyers (inside litigation counsel or panel). Optimizes CNA's opportunity to drive a superior customer experience. Enhances and creates the appropriate feedback loops between our lawyers and our business partners. Oversees retention of external law firms (i.e., panel counsel and special counsel) ensuring competitive and cost-effective delivery of service. Designs law firm rate review processes and law firm evaluation. Implements processes to assure regular review of existing firms and vendors. Optimizes performance and value proposition for both litigation counsel and panel counsel. Maximizes data, analytics and technology to enhance performance and decision making in support of litigation counsel organization, including creation of balanced scorecards. Facilitates and oversees implementation of enterprise litigation management platform. Oversees adherence to litigation and billing guidelines and maximizes use of bill review team auditing functions. Leads, directs and has full management accountability for staff in area of responsibility with an emphasis on talent management and succession planning in accordance with evolving business needs and corporate strategic direction.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with JD and a license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction. Should have 12 years of related legal work experience, with seven years management experience. Past experience managing in-house counsel teams and overseeing legal service functions in a corporate environment preferred. Experience effectively developing and implementing strategy, in partnership with panel counsel as appropriate, to address complex litigation matters. Advanced communication skills which are critical to collaborating across areas of influence (external and/or internal relationships. Ability to drive results by identifying and resolving significant problems within scope of responsibility.
