Senior Corporate Counsel - Litigation The candidate responsibilities include handling filed or threatened litigation against the firm, regulatory matters, interfacing with insurance carriers, and overseeing the process of responding to third party subpoenas for depositions and the production of documents. Additional responsibilities include working on conflict situations and access to work product in client transactions. This individual will have several years of experience as a civil litigator defending professional liability claims and should have extensive experience with all forms of civil discovery, including taking and defending depositions, drafting and arguing motions, and experience with mediations, arbitrations, and trials. Oversee subpoena responses in collaboration with a Senior Paralegal. Analyze potential claims against the firm and develop strategies to eliminate or minimize liability. Serve as the primary point of contact on lawsuits and other claims against the firm, coordinate with outside counsel, and collaborate with the General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer as needed. Serve as the primary point of contact on Board of Accountancy complaints against the firm or its personnel, and collaborate with the General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer. Attend and defend depositions of firm personnel. Review and comment on legal briefs and motions prepared by outside counsel. Assist outside counsel with discovery responses and preparation of witnesses. Work on mediation statements, attend mediations and hearings, and prepare settlement agreements. Analyze and properly document conflicts of interest involving the firm and its clients, including consultation with internal stakeholders and drafting conflict waiver agreements. Review and negotiate access letters and other contract documents involving clients and other third parties. Prepare and deliver training and presentations to employees, management, executives, and other members of the Legal Department on legal matters. Suggest process improvements and implement communication plan to team and internal stakeholders. Address professional liability, compliance, and regulatory issues. Assist with the development and implementation of the Legal strategy, vision, and goals as they align with and support the firm's goals and objectives. Partner with the leadership within Legal and the Professional Practice Group as needed on projects concerning firm policies, procedures, and risk management. Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate degree is required. Should have 10+ years of experience as a civil litigator. Washington Bar membership is preferred. Experience in public accounting or professional services environment is preferred. Demonstrated experience in building and leading high-performing teams and fostering an inclusive culture. Highly developed writing, editing, and written communication skills are needed. Excellent analytical abilities and attention to detail, ability to analyze complex financial deals and contract terms are needed. Should have the ability to operate successfully in a culture that values consultation and collaboration. Strong verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to influence and impact senior leadership is needed.
