General Counsel and Compliance Director The candidate will oversee a wide range of legal and risk management matters, including general corporate, employment and commercial, etc. Provide strategic advice and counsel on healthcare and telehealth compliance legal issues (PHE, DEA matters, state & federal laws, etc). Oversee the strategy and implementation of telehealth practice compliance needs, including readiness for HIPAA/HITECH, SOC2, etc. Provide timely business-focused advice to all departments, including clinical, compliance, human resources, marketing, and IT in order to achieve business objectives, mitigate risks, and meet legal obligations. Lead periodic reviews, continuous improvements, and/or development of forms, policies, and processes to continually improve and help the company and streamline the contracting process. Work collaboratively with PR, Clinical/Provider, and Business Operations teams to implement new laws and regulations. Draft, review, negotiate, approve, and provide oversight on all company agreements, including commercial contracts & key business terms and agreements. Lead and coordinate external legal services if needed, including the selection & supervision of external legal partners and overall management as the primary POC. Serve as a critical and collaborative thought partner with clinical, growth and business teams by translating complex legal topics into relevant, insightful explanations that inform strategic and operational decisions. Remain up-to-date on new laws, regulations, and industry trends as they affect Plume. Be a strategic and hands-on problem solver for all legal and compliance matters. Provide counsel and guidance for the successful defense of suits filed against the Company; provide informed cost-benefit analysis when identifying risks; and select and recommend alternative methods of dispute resolution, when appropriate. Assist in managing corporate matters, including board/shareholder matters and equity plan administration.

The candidate should have 6+ years of in-house or law firm experience as an attorney, with experience providing legal counsel on healthcare/telehealth-related laws & regulations (experience with mergers & acquisitions / VC funding is preferred). Deep understanding, appreciation, and compassion for the trans experience. A Juris Doctorate from a nationally accredited law school. Familiarity with HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and other regulations and compliance needs that may affect a digital healthcare startup (experience with controlled substances and DEA regulations is preferred). Demonstrated success in negotiating commercial business contracts / IP with vendors, clients, partners, etc. Highly skilled in verbal/written business communications, and highly adept at synthesizing/summarizing complex content into clear, concise, and actionable communications & trainings. Strong process orientation and demonstrated success in identifying, developing, and implementing scalable/sustainable processes and other continuous improvements to achieve organizational efficiencies. Ability to think creatively & strategically while formulating sound, valid, and practical legal advice. Ability to simultaneously balance legal risks with business needs. Ability to influence others to perform successfully in cross-functional teams and to lead, mentor, and develop others. History of demonstrating respect for cultural and linguistic differences and promoting an inclusive and diverse work environment. Admitted to practice law in at least one state and in good standing of applicable bar association(s).
