Trade Compliance Counsel

Trade Compliance Counsel The candidate will be providing day-to-day legal advice and assistance on trade compliance matters and working with personnel across to ensure ongoing compliance. Analyzing and determining export licensing jurisdiction, export classifications, and tariff classifications of products, software, and technology and advising on export licensing. Handling export licensing and authorization activities. Monitoring relevant trade compliance developments (regulatory trends and changes in applicable laws) and analyzing applicability to the company's objectives, activities, and practices. Creating, implementing, advising on, developing and maintaining applicable trade compliance policies and procedures. Assisting in developing and maintaining policies and procedures for appropriate storage of and access to controlled technical data. Developing, updating, and providing necessary trade compliance training for different employee groups. Auditing/monitoring trade compliance programs, detecting and correcting violations, and updating policies and procedures. Reviewing trade compliance matters in connection with potential international business transactions. Collaborating with stakeholders in various functional areas and business units and developing compliance strategies, procedures, and controls. Drafting periodic reports on trade compliance results. Participating in enterprise risk assessments. Effectively managing outside counsel. Preparing presentations on trade compliance issues for communication to company leadership.

The candidate should have a J.D. degree with strong academic credentials from an accredited law school. Should have 3+ years of trade compliance experience at a major law firm or corporation, including advising on compliance with laws, regulations and policies. Solid understanding of common trade regulations and laws applicable to US-based technology companies. Familiarity with telecommunications products/services and/or government contracting is a plus. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to work efficiently in a dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines. Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with and present complex legal concepts to a variety of audiences, including lawyers, engineers, and business leaders. Admission to the Colorado Bar (or the Washington D.C. Bar for applicants seeking to work in Washington D.C.), or the ability to be admitted promptly.
