Senior Counsel, Global Employment Law

Senior Counsel, Global Employment Law The candidate will be supporting HR business partners and business leadership with complex or highly visible employee relations matters, investigations, terminations of employment, and company policy development. Supporting and/or leading projects from a subject matter expert perspective specific to either one country or multiple countries. Leverage outside counsel as needed and manage usage to keep it within a strict budget. Accountability to bring matters and projects to closure promptly while managing competing deadlines. Report to Senior Vice President, Global Employment Law. Should have J.D. from a top US law school. Must have 10+ years of experience with Bar admission to any US state. Experience in the employment law department of a large law firm, with both employment litigation and employment law counseling experience. Must have expert level knowledge of US employment law and strong knowledge of employment law basics in various countries, particularly preferred experience with Germany, UK, France, Spain, Poland, and Japan. Experience with country employee works councils or labor unions is a plus. Experience with functional service provider business models, and employee leasing issues, is a plus. In-house legal experience with a focus on employment law in a global organization is required. Must have comfort and interest in learning various country employment laws and providing practical, actionable legal advice (with the assistance of outside counsel as required) consistent with the company's culture and legal risk tolerance. Proven project management skills in designing and running large projects, keeping team members on task, and driving the conclusion of projects on schedule. Must have practical, customer service focus on legal advice; technically strong lawyer with excellent interpersonal skills. Strong experience with non-competition agreements (interpreting and drafting), redundancies, and negotiating employment contracts and exit agreements. Must have superior problem-solving skills and the ability to be creative in approaching solutions. Superior decision-making skills, sometimes with limited information and time-sensitive situations, and the ability to drive matters to timely resolution. Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal- and written communication skills and the ability to influence without authority within all levels of the organization. Must have a strong work ethic and ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision, commitment to finding business-oriented, practical solutions to challenging employment law matters. Must have the ability to maintain a sense of humor under stress and strive to be easy to work with. Must have interest in working in a matrixed and fast-paced environment, working knowledge of employee data privacy matters.
