Vp Regulatory and Compliance Counsel

VP Regulatory and Compliance Counsel The candidate will develop and manage the process and resources for form and rate filings, including advice related to implementation protocols, for admitted professional liability and other products. Provide advice and participate in the implementation of protocols and training for compliance with applicable regulatory requirements for admitted business, including underwriting file and rating documentation; eligibility and rating guidelines; large risk exemptions (commercial deregulation); use of New York Free Trade Zone. Conduct legal research and analysis and provide advice on operational matters for admitted and non-admitted business, including cancellation, nonrenewal, conditional renewal, broker-of-record, regulatory reporting, assessments and surcharges (including patient compensation funds) and other day-to-day matters. Develop and maintain fifty state regulatory guidance, as appropriate. Serve as counsel for enterprise-wide privacy and data governance initiatives. Manage entity and individual licensing strategy and its employees, including producer, surplus lines broker and claims adjuster, in collaboration with Producer Compliance Manager. Provide legal advice to senior management, underwriting and operations regarding changes in laws, regulations and department positions affecting business. Develop and publish new law advisories as appropriate. Provide legal advice in connection with regulatory requirements for new business initiatives and product development/product revision process. Provide regulatory advice in support of claims compliance programs. Serve as point person for market conduct exams involving business, regulatory inquiries and data calls; establish and maintain a positive rapport with insurance departments and regulators.

The candidate should be a licensed attorney with 10 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm and/or insurance company. Strong knowledge of the insurance industry, competitors and broker distribution model. Superior written and oral communication skills. Project management and leadership experience. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, customers, and the general public. Effective negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.
