Senior Claims Specialist The candidate will be responsible for evaluation of coverage, investigation, reserving, settlement and closing of environmental, construction defect, and general liability claims of varying degrees of complexity while working both independently and as part the team. Also is responsible for the billing and receiving of ASCS claim handling charges and SIR s/deductibles. Assignment of claims to independent adjusters with appropriate direction. Completion of investigation of claims or suits, with assistance as needed from independent adjusters. Prepare Claims Summary Memos on required files. Timely establishment of reserves on losses and expenses. Effective and accurate application of reserve philosophy; changes entered timely. Proper and thorough coverage analysis. Timely and effective file reporting/documentation. Accurate liability and settlement evaluations. Effective negotiated settlements. Effective use of diary and other management controls. Prompt referral of suits to defense counsel no defaults. Quality and timely referral letters to defense counsel. Proper acknowledgement, excess and reservation of rights letters. Effective planning, direction and control of litigation activities. Proper file tempo litigated and non-suit files. Personal attendance at all important trials. Quality and timely settlement and/or disposition of all suits. Effective expense control via extensions, fee bill review, interim billings and use of Flat Fee arrangements. Effective expense control of experts and independent adjusters file needs to confirm expert fee arrangements before we retain. Supervision of special programs or books of business as assigned. Participation in training, training meeting presentations, claim committees and underwriting/loss control/claim meetings and continuing education requirements. Monthly review of loss runs for accuracy. Billing adjuster time and requesting checks for payment of losses or expenses. Billing SIR/deductibles and pursuing recovery.

Requirements: A BA/BS degree, or the equivalent in related work experience. A Law Degree a plus. Insurance courses (AIC or CPCU preferred). 15+ years experience handling liability claims is required. Understanding of large loss reporting and reinsurance. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to meet and deal effectively with people at all levels, inside and outside of the organization. Ability to make decisions according to company rules, regulations and procedures. Discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information. Must be a computer literate with strong skills using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
