Fortune 500 Company seeks Senior Counsel - Environmental Law with 10+ years of environmental legal experience. The candidate will be reporting to Vice President and General Counsel. Provides legal advice and representation on matters governed by laws intended to protect workers, public health or the environment (EHS) in locations throughout the world. Most matters governed by US federal and state laws, so a strong knowledge of major US environmental legislation and implementing regulations is needed, in particular, CAA, CWA, RCRA, TSCA, CERCLA. Working with Corporate and Business EHS program managers to identify program improvements that enhance compliance. Assisting EHS program leaders and facility EHS managers in understanding non-routine or gray area regulatory requirements. Prosecuting appeals of permits or other administrative decisions. Defending against enforcement actions. Overseeing preparation of PMNs, LVEs and other TSCA filings. Preparing persuasive oral and written communications to prevent enforcement and seek correct administrative decisions. Lead negotiations and draft settlements of disputed matters with regulatory agencies. Assisting business teams to develop plans to comply with product stewardship laws (WEEE, RoHS, REACH). Representing Appliances & Lighting in trade association activities addressing product stewardship initiatives. Training Appliances & Lighting Supply Chain leaders on the company’s Policies. Provide legal intake for a Supply Chain Organization to ensure legal questions reach correct specialists, and guide that organization through Compliance Reviews (Legal Coordinator). Should have J.D. degree. Proven track record of success in working in a fast paced environment required. Excellent academic credentials, with superior analytical and communication skills required. Should have excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities. Litigation experience (administrative and civil) important preferred. Knowledge and experience with OSHA regulations and enforcement a plus.
