Litigation Attorney The candidate provides full or specialized Legal services to one or more departments. Provides guidance to Management to avoid legally unsound decisions or plans and when changes in the law occur. Supervises preparation of the defense in litigation. Works with outside counsel to develop the defense; briefs and guides them and supervises their work. Directs outside counsel on whether a case should be tried or settled. Handles the high exposure cases ($100,000 or above) and/or the most complex or specialized cases. Tries cases including court appearances, Trial preparation, motions, discovery and negotiations. May supervise, train, or mentor other attorneys. Provides research, Legal analysis, factual information, counsel and guidance on Legal questions or issues. Prepares position papers on various Legal issues and interpretation of contractual provisions. Works closely with external clients while resolving Legal issues. Works independently in resolving Legal cases with minimal supervision. May perform additional duties as assigned.

The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree with J.D., and admission to the Bar of at least one state. Must have 10+ years of experience in handling Construction defect and large loss General liability matters and commensurate first chair Trial experience in this field. Should have advanced knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and procedures of litigation Management within an Insurance organization. Should have 7+ years of Claims and/or law firm experience with a proven track record of results. A minimum 10 Jury Trials as first chair counsel is preferred. Construction defect defense and large loss file handling experience strongly favored. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software needed.
