Regional Director, Government Relations Duties: Develops and executes on political strategy (legislative and regulatory) for Puerto Rico as approved by management. Develops and executes on political strategy for legislative and regulatory initiatives for Puerto Rico as approved by management. Engages in political activity as approved by management. Develops, manages, and perpetuates an overall positive imagine of Walgreen Co as national/global company committed to growth and public responsibility. Communicates with contract lobbyists, associations of which Walgreens is a member, elected officials and their staff members, interest groups and state agencies to convey the company positions on issues. Tracks, monitors, and acts on pending and enacted legislation and governmental activities based on input from appropriate internal departments, business units, lobbyists and associations. Proactively identifies and communicates legislative and regulatory issues and trends that impact the company including preparing memoranda and briefing materials. Proactively identifies and communicates legislative and regulatory issues to external parties similarly situated in order to build coalitions; monitoring hearings; developing grassroots plans for outreach, externally and internally, including drafting messaging, monitoring results and modifying plans as needed. Coordinates activity to ensure that issues are communicated quickly and accurately to appropriate internal personnel and external lobbyists/legislators/regulators/interested parties. Develops and implements strategies geared to protect or improve core business objectives in Puerto Rico based on knowledge of customs, culture, and political influence. Serve as a liaison with other corporate functions including but not limited to Corporate Communications, Legal and Community Relations. Develops, manages, and perpetuates an overall positive imagine of Walgreen Co as national/global company committed to growth and public responsibility.

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of experience in state and/or local government as legislative/executive staff. J.D., and/or Master's Degree in public policy. Appropriations and Healthcare Committee experience. Experience working in corporate government affairs or an association with a focus on health, retail, or pharmacy. Knowledge of Puerto Rico legislative and regulatory processes. Fluency in English and Spanish, including experience reading, writing and translating in both languages. Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates. Experience attending to legislative issues and meeting deadlines. 2+ years of experience in indirect management of team members, including assisting in the development, training and assignment of work/projects to other team members. Knowledge of pharmacy issues, Medicaid, healthcare and business issues (tax, labor, etc.).
