Senior Consultant, Transformation (TAX) Duties: Working, is responsible for providing expertise and analysis for strategic transformational initiatives. Ensuring that the assigned initiatives are well designed, executable, and delivered. Ensuring large-scale enterprise-wide initiatives are delivered driving innovative solutions to address current and future business challenges and achieving organizational objectives. Look across all corporate strategic initiatives to understand how the big picture initiatives link together in a holistic road map. Defines and drives strategic change roadmaps; strategic thinker (broad vs. narrow). Utilizes subject matter expertise to perform functional reviews of transformational initiatives and on-going BAU change agendas. Vets any new needs / demands from internal and external clients against agreed processes and industry standards. Raises variances to Work Stream Leads for approval. Ensures that there is no duplication of efforts and that capital investment is maximized for the initiative, leveraging synergies and minimizing tactical spend. Communicates to assigned stakeholders. Engages with the business partners to ensure current requirements including manual processes, overarching operational procedures and approved client variances are captured. Serves as a Change Advocate. Establishes trust within the corresponding business teams. Gains enthusiasm within the teams and raises to Work Stream Leads any concerns received. Engages with Northern Trust Industry Group Liaisons to capture all current industry requirements. Challenges Liaisons to identify any variances from Industry Standards. Remains connected to Liaisons to ensure future industry developments are considered. Understands the big picture and how their portion of the process fits. Identifies areas where people and process changes may be required in the future state including partner job responsibilities, tools, processes, procedures, etc. Independently delivers a high-quality work product. Confident and able to lead discussions to recommend and agree decisions. Defining and maintaining the functional and application vision and approach for accounting processing transformation. Work with internal partners - operational groups, Global Client Tax Services, Tax Compliance, Technical Accounting Policy - to solicit tax treatment changes and updates, to understand up and down stream impacts, and to gain approval and sign off on changes. Liaise with Technology on changes required to accounting/tax processes based on new cost basis needs, regulatory change, operational efficiency opportunities.

Qualifications: CPA, MST, or LLM in Taxation is a plus. Graduate-level study of the taxation of financial instruments is a plus. 10+ years of related business experience. Knowledge and understanding of financial instruments and the US Tax treatment around these instruments. Exposure to non-US tax standards a plus. Ability to document and maintain posting rule standards and the resulting detailed debit and credits comprising of the posting process for tax purposes. Working knowledge of the policies, rules, and interpretations that govern the federal regulation and taxation of financial instruments and transactions. Strong knowledge of tax regulations on financial instruments and ability to research the tax code when necessary. Knowledge of capital markets and financial instruments, including complex debt structures and derivatives. Familiarity with short sales, market discount and premium, notional principal contracts, original issue discount (OID), wash sales, and straddles. Strong knowledge of accounting (specifically debit and credit financial accounting) Familiarity with functionality of general ledger systems and interface modules (for transactional purposes) Ability to utilize Chart of Accounts and develop journal entries for asset class life cycle events (i.e. purchase, income, corporate actions, disposition) Accounting knowledge and understanding of financial instruments and the US GAAP and IFRS accounting components around these instruments. Ability to document and maintain posting rule standards and the resulting detailed debit and credits comprising of the posting process. Experienced in area of project management and has detailed knowledge of functional business areas. Relevant product experience; experienced in consulting, analysis and change management. Highly flexible and adaptable to change. Connected to industry and regulatory development and closely aligned to Product and assigned functional business areas. Leadership and organizational skills are required to interpret strategic goals and to recommend advancement. Excellent communicator; both verbal and written. Deep subject matter knowledge relating to a specific Northern Trust product and corresponding process. Understands the end to end process including capture, enrich, repair, process and deliver phases.
