Satellite giant names new General Counsel
Catherine Fox has been named General Counsel by renowned satellite operator SES Global. This post has been filled after a 10-month search. Fox brings 20 years of experience from telecommunications giant Alcatel. Having vast experience in the telecommunications and satellite industry globally, Catherine has significant knowledge of European and international laws. SES Global is listed on the Luxembourg and Paris stock exchanges and has revenues of £1.15B. It is part-owned by GE Capital, which has a 20% stake in the company.

New GC at Illumina
Christian Cabou has been appointed General Counsel and Vice President of Illumina, Inc. He will be responsible for legal and intellectual property matters globally. Prior to joining Illumina, Cabou served as General Counsel of GE Global Research for five years and specializes in intellectual property, engineering, and corporate matters. Illumina produces advanced tools for the genetic variation and function and enables research in various fields, including life science and pharmaceuticals.

New appointment at pSivida
Lori H. Freedman has been appointed as the Vice President, Corporate Affairs, General Counsel, and Secretary. She will be based in the Boston office. Freedman will manage all legal affairs of the company. She brings 14 years of valuable legal experience, having earlier worked with Control Delivery Systems and Allaire Corporation. pSivida is a NASDAQ-listed bio-nanotech company dedicated to bio-medical area and the development of drug delivery products and working with numerous internationally known companies.

Talbert is new General Counsel of DOE
The U.S. Education Department has appointed Kent Talbert General Counsel. He had been working as Acting General Counsel since January 2005. Previously working as an Education Policy Counsel for the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, he has also served in the fields of labor, pensions, health, and education in the U.S. Senate.

SABMiller hires partner from Lovells
John Davidson, Lovell's relationship partner for SABMiller, has been appointed as Secretary and General Counsel of the major brewery. Davidson has spent his entire legal career with Lovells and had been appointed partner in 1991. The law firm has indicated that it is expected to work closely with Davidson in his new position. SABMiller is a key client of Lovells and has been retaining its services since 1998. The company is one of the world's largest brewers, with distribution agreements in more than 60 countries across the globe.

TfL announces new GC
Howard Carter, head of legal and procurement and monitoring officer for Greater London Authority (GLA), has been appointed as GC for Transport for London (TfL). Howard will be advising the TfL board and its executives and officers on legal and contractual issues. While in GLA, Howard provided legal advice to bodies concerned with the 2012 Olympic Games. He spent five years in GLA and will take up the new role in September. TfL is an integrated body responsible for London's transport system, including the city's buses, underground, and its 4,600 traffic lights.

New General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at ProMetic, Canada
Mark Bandrauk is the new General Counsel and Corporate Secretary in ProMetic Life Sciences, Inc. Bandrauk specializes in commercial agreements, including licensing matters. Prior to joining ProMetic, Bandrauk served at Desjardins Securities as Senior Counsel and headed commercial and corporate projects for two years. ProMetic, headquartered in Montreal, is a biopharmaceutical company and specializes in commercial applications derived from its proprietary Mimetic LigandTM enabling technology. The company uses this technology in large-scale purification of biologics and the removal of pathogens.
