Reynolds American hires Lambeth as GC
Reynolds American, Inc., has hired the services of E. Julia "Judy" Lambeth as Executive Vice President and General Counsel. Lambeth will simultaneously oversee legal matters in Reynolds Tobacco Co., a Reynolds American subsidiary. With 15 years of experience and specialization in the areas of environmental, safety and health regulatory, and litigation, she succeeds Charles A. Blixt, who had served the company for 21 years. Most recently, Lambeth was Corporate Secretary and Deputy General Counsel of corporate services at ConocoPhillips. Reynolds American, Inc., is the parent company of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, the second-largest U.S. tobacco company, and manufactures approximately one of every three cigarettes sold in the country.

CKE enlists new GC
Michael Murphy has been named General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer at CKE Restaurants, Inc. In capacity of CAO, Murphy will head the legal, human resources, payroll, and information technology divisions and manage franchising and global activities of the company. Previously, Murphy has served the company as General Counsel and Executive Vice President dealing with franchising. With 3,200 locations in 13 countries, CKE Restaurants—along with its franchisees, subsidiaries, and licensees—serve cuisines that have made their marks internationally.

New GC at Sterling Healthcare
Sterling Healthcare announced the appointment of Kimberly Licata as General Counsel and Senior Vice President. Based at the Durham, NC, headquarters of Sterling Healthcare, Licata will be in charge of all legal matters of the company, including lender relationships, employment, intellectual property, and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to the appointment, she was a senior associate at Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC. Licata is a member of the North Carolina and District of Columbia bars, their associated bar associations, and the American Health Lawyers Association. Sterling Healthcare provides hospital-based physician management services in three main areas: emergency, hospital, and critical-care medicine.

Hartford announces Assistant GC for compliance
Brian L. Ferrell has been named Assistant Vice President and Assistant General Counsel for the Compliance Group of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. Ferrell will work on compliance issues in the areas of anti-money laundering (AML) and terrorist financing regulations and will manage the company's AML programs. He has come from the U.S. Department of Treasury, where he was serving as Chief Counsel for the agency's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). At FinCEN, Ferrell provided counsel on matters related to the Bank Secrecy Act. A Fortune 100 company, Hartford is a major financial services and insurance company, with international offices located at Japan, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.

Power supplier hires Sahr as GC
Bob Sahr has been designated as General Counsel in Madison for East River Electric Power Cooperative. Sahr, who was most recently Chairman of the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission, specializes in the areas of energy and telecommunications and is experienced in power supply, transmission, and consumer-advocacy matters. He also serves as secretary of the Mid-American Regulatory Conference and is a member of the Telecommunications Committee of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. A major power company, East River supplies wholesale power to 21 electric distribution systems in South Dakota and Minnesota.

Life science company recruits Corporate Counsel
Rich Keffer has been appointed Corporate Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary at Sigma-Aldrich Corporation. Keffer will work on the company's executive management team and oversee its legal services and corporate governance matters. Enriched with 25 years of corporate legal experience, Keffer has served international companies in the consumer product, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries and has expertise in mergers and acquisitions. His last appointment as General Counsel was at D&K Healthcare, which was recently acquired by McKesson. As it is a major life science and high-technology company, Sigma-Aldrich's biochemical and organic chemical products are used for research and development by clients including life science companies, colleges, and medical institutions.
