New organization to hold roundtable meetings for top general counsel
A new legal organization, Technology General Counsel Roundtable, has been formed by general counsel working for Atlanta's major technology companies. Already comprised of more than 30 members and sponsored by law firm Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP, the group will hold meetings featuring presentations on topics followed by moderated roundtable discussions. Topics will pertain to current case law and regulations impacting technology companies, as well as ways to enhance the performance of corporate legal departments. There will also be a forum in which senior in-house counsel from both technology and non-technology companies will have opportunities to share their experiences.

Sarubbi named GC of Camden County Improvement Authority
Vincent Sarubbi has been named General Counsel of the Camden County Improvement Authority. Currently practicing law as a private attorney with Haddonfield-based Archer & Greiner, Sarubbi earlier served the county as a prosecutor. Until February, when the new authority will decide whether to make Sarubbi's appointment permanent, he will attend all meetings and draft resolutions for the organization. The Camden County Improvement Authority has been extensively involved in the township's latest redevelopment projects.

Asset Acceptance names new GC
Edwin Herbert has been hired as the new General Counsel for Asset Acceptance Capital Corporation. Herbert comes from Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, where he was an equity partner and a member of the financial institutions practice group. He has worked on a host of compliance and regulatory matters, particularly in the areas of financial institution mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, SEC reporting, and securities offerings. Asset Acceptance, a leading debt management company, has assisted a number of credit originators with collecting defaulted consumer debt.

Coal giant promotes Harvey to VP and Assistant GC
Massey Energy Company has promoted M. Shane Harvey to the post of Vice President and Assistant General Counsel. Harvey will continue working with the company's group operations and will oversee legal matters pertaining to environmental compliance, health and safety compliance, public affairs, and personal injury litigation. He joined Massey in 2000 and throughout his career has represented a number of clients in the coal industry. Headquartered in Richmond, VA, Massey Energy is the fourth-largest coal company in the United States.

New GC at InfoSpace
Bellevue, WA-based InfoSpace, Inc., has named Bruce Easter as the company's Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Prior to joining InfoSpace, Easter worked for regional investment bank Seattle-Northwest Securities Corporation as Vice President and General Counsel. InfoSpace is one of the premier companies providing mobile-phone content, products, and services.

ASTRO appoints new GC
The American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) has appointed Laura Steeves Gogal as its new general counsel. Gogal will oversee the organization's legal activities and advise on healthcare-related policy matters. Prior to joining ASTRO, she served as Vice President and Chief Counsel for the Federation of American Hospitals and worked on legal health policy issues relating to confidentiality, self-referral, fraud and abuse, and Medicare. The largest radiation-oncology organization, ASTRO has more than 8,500 members, including radiation oncologists, radiation oncology nurses, medical physicists, radiation therapists, dosimetrists, and biologists.
