Presstek hires new GC
Chemistry-free printing company Presstek Inc. hired James R. Van Horn as its new vice president and general counsel. Van Horn, who received his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University and has served as vice president, general counsel, and secretary of Sun-Times Media Group Inc., brings more than 16 years of general counsel experience to Presstek. All legal matters, including advising the executive team, will fall to Van Horn. Jeff Jacobson, the printing company's CEO and president, is confident that Van Horn will be an asset to Presstek and "expect[s] him to be an invaluable member of the team."

CarMax hires new GC
A Fortune 500 company and the nation's largest used car retailer, CarMax Inc. hired Eric Margolin as its new senior vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary. Margolin brings a vast amount of experience to CarMax; he formerly served as senior vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary at Advance Auto Parts for more than five years and as vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary for Tire Kingdom Inc. With a B.A. in political science from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, Margolin will not only direct and manage all legal activities at CarMax but also serve as legal advisor and ensure business compliance. He will begin on November 26, 2007.

Children's Place hires new GC
Children's Place Retail Stores Inc. hired Patricia Gray as its new senior vice president and general counsel. Gray, who has served as senior vice president and chief legal officer of Panera Bread Co. and senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary of Arch Wireless Inc., brings more than 25 years of corporate and securities law experience to Children's Place. Of Gray, Interim CEO Chuck Crovitz said, "We look forward to her input and expect her to make a significant contribution to the company." The company currently operates 899 The Children's Place stores and 328 Disney Stores in North America.

Xilinx hires new GC
Technology-solutions company Xilinx hired Scott Hover-Smoot as its new vice president, general counsel, and secretary. Hover-Smoot, whose responsibilities will pertain to legal policies, corporate governance, securities compliance, intellectual property, commercial licensing, mergers and acquisitions, employment law, and litigation, brings more than 25 years of experience to Xilinx. Recently, Hover-Smoot served as regional counsel and director at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. as well as vice president and general counsel of California Micro Devices.

Pacific Internet hires new GC
Pacific Internet Ltd., the Asia-Pacific region's largest telco-independent Internet communications service provider, recently hired Grace Guang as its new general counsel. The company, also known as "PacNet" and the "Company," is replacing current general counsel Deborah Foo. Guang, who recently provided legal counsel at law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP, has also served as a corporate associate at law firm Allen & Gledhill in Singapore. She received her Bachelor of Laws degree from the National University of Singapore and her Master of Laws degree from Columbia University.
