Senior Counsel, Litigation And Insured Claims

Jupiter FL Senior Counsel, Litigation and Insured Claims Duties: Manage, investigate and suggest resolution for employee claims, complaints and reports. Support the Managing Counsel of Litigation in managing litigation and claims for the NA Region and driving initiatives to improve process. Provide advice and counsel to ensure that injured employees receive appropriate care and are able to return to work if possible. Provide support and assistance to the Claims Department to monitor and evaluate the defense of insured company litigation and claims. Actively seek to fulfill commitment to ensure that all employees are treated fairly and with dignity and respect and promoting Dignity and Respect Campaign.

Qualifications: Must have a JD Degree from an accredited law school. Must have an active Bar admission in at least one state. Must have 4+ years of litigation experience. Work experience must demonstrate: Commitment to treating others fairly and with dignity and respect. Ability to communicate clearly and with sound judgment in writing and verbally to individuals of all levels of responsibility both within the company and externally. Ability to interface with internal clients and external customers daily and build relationships as an integral member of a solutions team. Strong skills in institutionalizing and facilitating transfer of know-how and best practice between various company businesses and locations. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality on highly sensitive matters. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office. Effective oral and written communication skills. Active listening skills. Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively. Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately. Attention to detail. Plus: Experience in both a law firm and in-house environment. Experience in appellate. Experience in administrative hearings. Licensed in the State of Florida or already established as Florida Authorized House Counsel. Experience of any type (legal or otherwise) in the security industry. Experience working with business managers. Experience working with claims adjusters and third party claims administrators. Broad litigation experience with general liability matters, including wrongful death cases; and, transportation related claims. Experience with and understanding of personal injury claims and workers compensation claims. Experience interpreting insurance policies and interacting with insurance companies and brokers. Experience drafting company policies. Aptitude and experience identifying and reducing business risks identified through litigated matters. Desire and drive to continuously improve the business through process improvements that reduce risk, save money and enhance the work environment of company employees. Represent the Firm and employees in SEC, FINRA and state regulatory investigations and enforcement matters. Will maintain and manage a caseload and prepare answers to statements of claim or complaints, engage in discovery and motion practice, engage in settlement negotiations and mediations and conduct arbitration final hearings and trials. In addition to the foregoing, manage outside counsel in significant litigation matters and will provide litigation-related legal advice across the Raymond James entities. Also have extensive contact with internal clients, senior management and outside counsel. Plans, assigns, monitors and leads the work of others. Reviews performance and evaluates results achieved by others. Coaches and mentors others, including providing guidance and direction to a paralegal staff and developing a regular program of continuing education and career development opportunities. Interprets, applies and recommends changes to organizational policies and procedures. Reviews progress of assignments with senior management. Balances conflicting resource and priority demands. Assists others in developing, preparing and presenting legal theories and strategies. Provides advice, counsel and recommendations to senior management on litigation matters. Prepares and delivers written and oral presentations to management and senior management on litigation matters. Maintains currency in laws and regulations related to assigned functional areas. Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
