Associate General Counsel, Employment Law

New York City NY Associate General Counsel, Employment Law Duties: Provide employment law support primarily to Citi s Institutional Clients Group (ICG) in the US, which includes Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory (BCMA), Markets and Securities Services (MSS), Trade and Transaction Services (TTS), Private Banking (CPB) and ICG O&T, on a wide range of employment matters, including: offers and separations; executive compensation agreements; dispute resolution; discipline and discharge issues; employee investigations (including ethics hotline matters); ADA, FMLA and other leave issues; wage and hour compliance (including DOL audits); federal contractor compliance (including OFCCP audits, equal employment opportunity and affirmative action requirements); reductions-in-force; mergers and acquisitions; employee privacy (such as searches, monitoring/recording communications); and raiding and recruiting. The position also manages a robust and complex litigation docket and associated outside counsel spend and creates and delivers training to HR and business managers on a host of employment related topics. In addition, the individual will function as an expert resource for the team and internal stakeholders on various assigned subject matters (such as diversity, onboarding, non-employee management, government contracting, and global diligence initiatives) that rotate regularly across the team. Reporting to the senior employment lawyer for ICG, and HR partners will support, providing the opportunity for real-time personal interaction with our internal partners.

Qualifications: JD Degree U.S. state bar admission required. 10+ years employment law experience required. In-house experience, and experience with financial institutions and/or the financial markets, preferred. Should have (i) extensive knowledge of US employment laws; (ii) substantial experience counseling clients on employment law matters, conducting investigations and training, and litigation management; (iii) excellent analytical, communication and writing skills; and (iv) the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Senior Counsel, Labor & Employment

New York City NY Senior Counsel, Labor & Employment Duties: Partner with senior leaders of the Talent team to drive the development of best in class, consistent employment practices, policies, tools and trainings that align with the company s strategy, values, and business goals. Provide day to day counseling and advice across a variety of areas including employee relations, performance management, dispute resolution, leaves of absence and accommodations, wage and hour issues, internal investigations, compensation and benefits, and contingent workforce issues. Manage federal and state employment-related litigation, pre-litigation disputes, agency proceedings, including drafting responses to administrative charges, and audits. Draft and negotiate all employment-related contractual agreements, including employment contracts, contractor agreements, separation agreements, etc. Develop and implement employment handbooks, policies, and procedures. Partner with Talent and business teams on location openings, closings, and reductions in force. Provide communications and trainings relating to new federal, state, and local legislation and regulations; work with business stakeholders to integrate new procedures and revised policies. Partner with the Talent team to conduct ongoing trainings relating to employee relations best practices, and investigation techniques and compliance. Oversee internal audits of company s employment policies and practices and HR compliance. Provide counsel and guidance on immigration and workplace safety matters. Effectively oversee and manage outside counsel.

Requirements: BA/BS and JD Degree from an ABA accredited law school, excellent academic credentials, and an active license to practice law in New York. 8-10 years of employment law experience, including in-house practice; experience with a multi-national retail company is a plus. Knowledge of US and EU privacy laws and regulations preferred but not required. Ability to evaluate legal risks and offer practical business solutions with a high level of professionalism and outstanding business judgement. Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced legal environment.
