Assistant General Counsel, Labor And Employment

Raleigh NC Assistant General Counsel, Labor and Employment The candidate will be responsible for delivering labor and employment strategy for firm's globally. Will work closely with Senior Executives, Operational Management, Human Resources, and other functions globally. Responsible for delivering strategic and fit-for-purpose solutions to company with regard to all matters of labor and employment, including support of Total Reward, Human Resources business partners, executive and senior personnel contracts, and employment compliance matters. Build a focused, efficient and strategic Labor & Employment function. Communicate with senior-level stakeholders to ensure risk is properly managed and key talent is recruited and retained in a high-growth environment. Be a thought leader within the function and beyond, aligned with company values and culture, to further the business goals of firm. Supervise and/or provide direction to labor and employee relations staff; collaborate in the formulation and implementation of firm's policy and long-range HR programs and plans. Provide strategic advice regarding all aspects of labor law. Provide legal analysis, advice and counsel on labor and employment matters. Educate and advise business leaders and HR professionals in all aspects of positive employment practices. Providing advice to Human Resources and Operations leaders on issues such as employee discipline, reductions in force, restructuring, benefits changes, compensation changes, staffing challenges, EEOC matters, etc. Assist in developing compelling employee communication - in a form and fashion that recognize our employees are consumers, not just employees. Investigates problems such as working conditions, disciplinary actions, and employee and applicant appeals and grievances. Coordinate with Litigation & Claims function as appropriate. Provides guidance and recommendations for problem resolution to departmental officials and individuals. Works or prompt resolutions of disputes to minimize loss of employee wages, interruption of normal business operations, and to achieve a settlement that minimizes ill feelings and mistrust between labor and management. Actively participate in providing regular and timely legal information as a continuing educational resource for firm'sHS including development of presentation materials, delivery of presentations, and development of written summaries regarding labor and employment regulatory/legal changes affecting employers. Provide research and technical support and drafts legal opinions for the determination and resolution of complex legal issues. Respond to administrative agencies, demand letters, and other claims. Manage and coordinates relationship with outside counsel on employment litigation to meet organizational goals, in a cost-effective manner. Assess best case strategy and need for settlement on litigation, guides outside counsel, and supervises the work of outside counsel. Work with HR Business Partners and leaders to improve investigatory processes and outcomes, and other proactive steps to mitigate risk. Review labor relations communication plans for legal compliance, and work with internal resources to prepare and implement timely and effective communications with employees, managers, and senior leadership. Remain current and knowledgeable with respect to labor/employment law, particularly with issues affecting health care.

The candidate must have 10 years of total experience in a law firm or in-house position with a focus on employment law. Must have prior senior-level in-house experience, including management of legal personnel. Must have expertise in the full range of labor and employment laws. Must have strong litigation management experience. Must be Admitted to a State Bar and currently in good standing.
