Senior Corporate Counsel, Employment

Chicago IL Senior Corporate Counsel, Employment Duties: Responsible for managing labor and employment issues across the company (both U.S. and globally) and providing guidance on an array of topics to People team. Work closely with and report to General Counsel. Complete new hire training & onboarding program alongside other new Sprout team members. Partner with General Counsel to define priorities, best practices, and key success metrics for your role. Connect and engage with stakeholders of People team to understand their needs and priorities and how to best support them. Develop an understanding of our employee base and the related risks facing our business. Provide day-to-day advice on domestic and international employment matters and best practices. Review and draft employment-related documents, including employment agreements, separation agreements, consulting agreements, offer letters, and confidentiality agreements. Meet with People team leadership and other stakeholders at a regular cadence to ensure the current legal process aligns with business objectives. Provide subject matter advice and guidance on a variety of employment law matters, such as the development and implementation of employee policies and trainings (including sexual harassment training), organizational restructures, leaves of absence and accommodations, and other HR practices. Monitor legislation, regulations, case law and government enforcement activities relating to the above substantive legal areas, and provide proactive, strategic advice to relevant business partners. Support and collaborate with cross-functional business partners on complex legal matters and special projects to drive and sustain employment law compliance and further the long-term interests of firm. Support collective bargaining and labor contract drafting, administration, and interpretation. Advise on employee benefits matters, including incentive plans, welfare plans, retirement plans, benefits documentation, and claims.

The candidate'must have Juris Doctor or LLM from an accredited law school; Should have minimum of 5 years of employment law and related litigation experience, preferably including an in-house corporate legal environment or large corporate environment; Must be Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state or other applicable jurisdiction; In house retail experience preferred. Should have experience and judgment necessary to operate with significant autonomy in advising leaders at all levels from first-line managers to senior executives; Must have experience advising retail businesses.

Associate Counsel/Counsel, Employment Law Responsibilities: Conduct and provide counsel on internal investigations of employment-related and other types of complaints, ensuring that claims are addressed promptly, thoroughly and appropriately. Advise management and Human Resources with respect to all employment law issues, including onboarding matters, leaves of absence and accommodations, performance management and discipline, discrimination, harassment, and other claims, employment policy development and implementation, wage and hour issues, worker classifications (e.g. IC status), and other employee relations matters. Conduct legal research and analysis of complex legal issues. Partner with Labor Relations on various matters involving represented employees.

Qualifications: Law degree. Member in good standing of the State Bar of New York or member in good standing of another State Bar and able to register as New York In-House Counsel. Should have 1 year for Associate Counsel, or 4 years for Counsel, of employment law experience.

Must be admitted, and in active status and good standing with the California State Bar (or permitted to work as in-house counsel under the rules of your state of residence); have strong law firm or in-house experience/training. Bilingual in English/Korean strongly preferred
