Attorney - Environmental

Rosemead CA Attorney - Environmental The Candidate will be responsible to provide legal support to various leaders in other areas of the business, while collaborating with other Company representatives on decisions that impact utility operations. Represent SCE before federal, state, and local agencies on permitting and compliance issues. Draft or review environmental documents, permit applications, regulatory filings, and briefs. Direct and manage outside counsel retained to support the company's legal needs.

The candidate should have Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited nationally recognized law school. Current member in good standing of the State Bar of CA. In your 4th or greater year of experience practicing environmental law since passing the bar. Your combined experience can be at a law firm, corporate in-house setting, or government authority. Top academic credentials. Experience with the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Porter-Cologne Water Quality Control Act. Experience in the utility or energy industry or administrative agency practice. Experience working with client organizations to develop and carry-out strategic initiatives, e.g., identification of factual and legal issues, development of environmental policies and programs, legal pleadings, and legal briefs. Ability to independently handle proceedings as lead attorney in matters before regulatory agencies. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team including an ability to promote positive cooperation within the legal team, internal clients, and outside counsel.

Senior/Principal Environmental Attorney

Denver CO Senior/Principal Environmental Attorney The candidate will be providing legal advice and ensuring compliance with environmental laws, regulations and permits. Will be providing advice on environmental contracts, including waste services contracts, access agreements and consultant contracts, various types of contracts with environmental risk, and assisting with environmental due diligence in connection with acquisitions. Assisting in setting strategy on environmental matters, including climate policy and remediation activities. Defending Company, managing outside counsel, and budgeting matters in environmental litigation or enforcement.

The candidate should have Juris Doctorate degree from ABA accredited law school. Licensed to practice in the state in which the position is located. Must have 3-6 years of practice (6-10 years for Principal) in corporate law department, law firm, government practice or equivalent legal experience. Superior verbal and written communication skills are required. Must have strong background in environmental law including compliance, permitting, real property transactions, litigation, and enforcement actions. Should preferably have environmental regulatory experience across all major environmental programs (e.g., CWA, CAA, ESA, RCRA, CERCLA, BGEPA etc.), transactional experience and litigation experience, with an emphasis on Clean Air Act and remediation/contamination-related experience. Should preferably have experience in the areas of air and water quality, remediation, and administrative agency law and regulation. Experience with coal ash, PCBs, MGPs, and various energy plants (coal, nuclear, wind, solar) is a plus. Possesses general litigation experience, including experience related to trials, depositions, document and e-discovery, motions, and other litigation-oriented skills. Experience and ability to provide federal and state environmental legal advice to operating facilities regarding air, water and waste permitting and compliance issues, and to assess environmental reports and audits, and provide related legal advice is preferred. Possess general transactional experience, including drafting of contracts. Experience and ability to understand and communicate complex legal information is preferred.
