Legal Counsel - Us Government

Washington DC Legal Counsel - US Government Responsibilities: Understand relationship with its US government customers and provide advice and counsel in support of business goals. Draft and negotiate contracts and license agreements. Advise on product development issues, compliance, intellectual property rights, data privacy, conflicts of interest, and more. Develop and implement strategies to manage and resolve government inquiries. Exercise initiative and creativity in solving challenges.

Qualifications: JD Degree and 4+ years of firm, in-house, or government experience (a combination is even better). Experience with government contracting, software licensing, or compliance. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and writing skills. Demonstrated ability to propose creative solutions to novel issues. Strong organizational skills with an ability to multitask in a rapidly changing environment. Passion for cutting edge technology and working on complex public policy challenges.

Federal Government Affairs Counsel

Washington DC Federal Government Affairs Counsel Accountabilities: Acts as the primary company liaison with members of Congress and federal agencies. Identifies, interprets, and evaluates legislative and regulatory proposals which may have a significant impact on the company. Develops, implements, and manages government affairs strategy necessary to advance or avoid this impact. Acts as American Family`s lobbyist at congressional hearings on proposed legislation and regulation. Prepares comments, attends trade hearings, works with other insurance company representatives, trade associations and sponsoring agencies to achieve acceptable language, and testifies as appropriate. Develops and communicates a thorough understanding of federal legislative and regulatory climate and strategies needed within these environments to achieve corporate strategic initiatives. Identifies and communicates the likely impacts of legislative and regulatory outcomes on future business activities/results. Identifies and provides relevant information regarding legislative and regulatory proposals which may require grassroots mobilization. Acts as the point of contact and manager for respective grassroots alerts. Advises the federal Political Action Committee (PAC). Promotes compliance with campaign finance laws. Provides legislative summaries to employees and agents on a regular basis. Compiles similar information, as needed, for publication within the company.

Washington DC Lead Counsel Government Contracting The candidate will provide legal support for pursuit and performance of federal, state, and local government contracts. Develop close working relationships with business stakeholders to facilitate efficient and effective review of solicitations and preparation of proposals. Work directly with business leaders and other members of the GCO to identify and address risks and issues raised by contracting with the government. Represent in engagements with government attorneys and contracting professionals. Collaborate with other attorneys and members of the GCO and business teams that engage with government customers to advise, develop and implement appropriate compliance processes and controls that appropriately address government contracting requirements. Serve as a legal advisor to business unit leaders on a wide array of topics relating to segment needs, including legal risk mitigation, customer management, strategic initiatives and compliance programs. Experience with Federal Supply Schedules (GSA and VA) and bid protests preferred. Experience with the healthcare industry or other areas of federal oversight are desired.

The candidate should have a Juris Doctor Degree and be a member of a State Bar. Knowledge of federal, state, and local government contracting rules. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to provide sound, clear legal advice within the company, including to senior business executives. Ability to adapt communication style depending on the recipient's level of sophistication about legal issues. Comfortable working on multiple projects concurrently. Business acumen dealing with risk management and organizational savvy. Ability to work closely with, facilitate interactions within, and influence large cross-functional teams (including representatives from other areas of the General Counsel Organization regulatory and compliance professionals, sales professionals and operations managers). Must be a team player who can develop strong working relationships and work collaboratively with internal clients and other members of the legal team.
