Lead Counsel, Privacy

Austin TX Lead Counsel, Privacy The candidate will manage and advise on global privacy program, including developing and improving privacy frameworks and processes to ensure obligations under the program. Support product lawyers in evaluating the impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance and enforcement actions, and other related guidelines on new and existing products and features. Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in areas of data use and protection laws and advise the impact of the same on business. Support members of the Legal, Partnerships, Policy and Privacy teams on privacy and security-related legal matters, including in areas related to product development, partnerships, integrations, and other business development opportunities. Evaluate the impact of legislative, regulatory, legal developments and industry proposals involving privacy and security across services and companies. Drive high-profile and high-impact projects involving privacy analysis and compliance with stakeholders across the business including Policy, Legal, Communications, Security, and other departments. Develop a regulatory strategy with global privacy regulators in connection with new product features and initiatives. Support privacy for commercial deals and work cross-functionally on all deal-related matters for affiliates.

The candidate should have a J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one US State Bar. Should have 5+ years of legal experience, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience. Experience with global privacy laws, regulations, privacy programs and industry guidelines. Experience with litigation, regulatory, or product counseling. Technical or engineering experience is preferred. Demonstrated experience in privacy and data issues arising in one or more private areas such as data sharing, security, advertising, products or privacy program implementation/management is preferred. Commercial deal experience is preferred. Experience using business judgment and with client counseling is preferred. Experience advancing projects in a multi-stakeholder environment are preferred.

Dallas TX Privacy Attorney Duties: Provide legal support to multiple departments in privacy diligence and negotiating, drafting, and reviewing data privacy provisions in agreements. Advise on data protection incidents, including determining whether notifications are required and drafting such. Assist in maturing the privacy program, including impact assessments, training, policy and procedure development, and implementation of privacy-by-design principles. Monitor developments in federal, international, and state privacy and data security laws. Draft, implement and assist with operationalizing privacy-related documentation, including consents, privacy notices, and other documents for the lawful transmission of data. Assist in responding to requests to exercise data subject rights. Collaborate with legal department colleagues on a variety of legal and regulatory issues, with an emphasis on privacy, security and regulatory compliance. Provide legal counsel on intellectual property issues, including trademarks, copyrights, patents, and domain names. Strategically manage outside counsel and budgets. Performs other duties requiring legal research and analysis and/or negotiations as may be requested by the General Counsel, an Associate General Counsel, or other more senior attorney.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED. Law degree from an accredited school. IAAP Certification (CIPP) is a plus. Must be a current member in good standing of a bar association Should have 5 years of relevant experience. practicing transactional and privacy attorney. Experience with a mid-sized to a major law firm or in-house legal department. Experience counseling on compliance with GDPR and a full range of federal and state privacy laws, drafting privacy policies and notices, drafting and negotiating privacy-related contractual provisions, and evaluating and responding to data security incidents.
