Senior Counsel, Data Privacy & Regulatory

Tysons Corner VA Senior Counsel, Data Privacy & Regulatory Responsibilities: Maintain and continue to develop subject matter expertise in areas of data use and protection laws (including state and federal privacy laws, GDPR and other global privacy laws) and advise on the impact of the same on business. Provide data privacy and regulatory guidance across a wide range of functional areas, including to product, commercial and employment attorneys, as well as information security, technology, and procurement teams. Advise business teams, including HR, on internal privacy compliance. Support the sales, information technology and cloud teams on privacy and security-related transactional matters, including areas related to customers, partners, integrations, and business development opportunities. Build and manage the company's FCPA and business partner review program. Advise on code of conduct and other corporate policy issues. Develop or enhance other compliance and policy programs including those that relate to software development, international trade, and other areas. Draft and update company policies that impact employees, business conduct and company reputation. Lead and support internal investigations. Design and implement modern and effective training programs.

Requirements: JD Degree from superior law school. 7+ years relevant experience at a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal department. Substantive depth in domestic and international data privacy, including GDPR, CCPA, and various state and federal privacy laws. Experience in and facility for other relevant regulatory areas. Ability to prioritize work and provide advice under deadlines. Sound business judgment and client counseling experience. Experience advancing projects in a multi-stakeholder environment. Exceptional drafting skills and attention to detail.

Overseeing data security procedures and supporting the business during incident response actions. Monitoring and sharing legal developments in digital media and advertising across the organization. Serving as primary point of contact for the e-commerce business unit. Providing ongoing training to our IT/IS and marketing communities on pertinent topics. Drafting and negotiating agreements with third parties related to e-commerce, advertising, and promotions including on privacy and data security provisions. Serving as subject matter authority for our Division Counsel and our team of four paralegals responsible for advertising and promotions review. Working in partnership with divisions to identify, develop, and share standard methodologies. JD from accredited law school are required. Current membership in the Virginia State Bar or the ability to become Registered In House Counsel in Virginia. Strong background in legal representation of businesses on privacy, data security and digital advertising are required. Advise the business on the application of data privacy considerations, including PIA, to internal processes and emerging technologies, including AI. Provide strong collaboration across the business to anticipate and address risk and compliance. Develop and deliver communication and training to targeted audiences.

Qualifications: JD Degree with active Bar Membership. 5 years' legal experience. 3 years focused experience with data privacy issues. 3 years' experience with data privacy laws (e.g. GDPR, CCPA, Privacy Act), 3 years substantial experience with data privacy requirements. Ability to communicate complex legal issues in an understandable and persuasive manner to technical and business leaders at all organizational levels.
