Counsel - Insurance Defense Trial Attorney (In-House)

Tampa FL Counsel - Insurance Defense Trial Attorney (In-House) The candidate is responsible for providing high quality and cost-effective legal representation. Responsible for independent, aggressive case handling with a resolution management focus. Litigates cases to verdict, demonstrating superior use of trial skills and techniques. Ability to independently handle a full to moderate caseload with moderate level of severity and complexity from case inception through trial/resolution. Works under the guidance of Senior Counsel in litigating complex and high exposure files. Conducts legal research as necessitated and supervises research projects delegated to Associate Counsel and paralegals. Independently drafts pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery and other file documents. Attends court events and other appointments independently. Learns and understands claim customers expectations and key department business goals and assists them in meeting those goals. Handles and actively seeks opportunities to become involved in special projects and on committees. Provides recommendations and case analysis to business partners on appropriate file handling strategy. Integrates legal support staff into case handling process. Builds and maintains superior internal and external client relationships. Completes all required administrative tasks including time reporting, closed cases, reports and other materials appropriate to performance of job duties. Effectively makes use of technology and automation in the practice of law. Adheres to all standards of excellence in file management. Travels as required to meet business needs. Ability to mentor and train less experienced counsel and legal support staff. Provide advice and training to claim partners and clients.

The candidate should have graduation from an accredited law school. Must have successful completion of the Bar and ethics examinations in the state(s) in which representation. Must have 1+ year of litigation practice or equivalent legal experience. Active license to practice law in the state(s) in which representation is required. Must have 2+ years or equivalent legal experience. Insurance litigation work exposure is desirable. Must have track record of trial skills and techniques. Must have articulate presentation skills using technology Strong and persuasive legal writing skills and oral advocacy skills. Must have strong research skills. Strong negotiation skill is essential.

Hollywood FL Senior Staff Attorney Insurance Defense Duties: Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients, as well as in the prosecution of subrogation actions. Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies without supervision because of level of experience and expertise. Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims on legal and factual issues. Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures. Responsible for the prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases. Independently prepares and presents witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial and administrative hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutions. Research, draft, file and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients. Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain high level of professional expertise.

Qualifications: JD Degree from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of Florida. Experienced litigation attorney. Jury trial experience required. 8+ years law practice, preferably within the insurance defense industry. Core Communications, Customer Focus, and Data DNA badges strongly preferred for current Claims staff.
