A violent shooting rampage in rural Mississippi has left six people dead, including a 7-year-old girl, after a suspect allegedly carried out a series of targeted attacks across three separate homes, according to law enforcement officials.
The shootings occurred Friday evening in Clay County, near the town of West Point, prompting a
large-scale response from local and state authorities. Investigators say the suspect moved between multiple locations, fatally shooting victims at each stop before being taken into custody later that night.
Multiple Homes Targeted
Clay County Sheriff’s officials confirmed that deputies first responded to reports of gunfire at a residence in a rural area of the county. Inside the home, officers discovered three adults who had suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head. Authorities later confirmed that the victims were related to the suspect.
Following the initial shootings, investigators believe the suspect left the scene in a vehicle and traveled to a second home several miles away. At that location, a 7-year-old girl was shot and killed. Officials said another child was present during the incident but was not physically injured.
The suspect then continued to a third residence, where two additional adult men were found dead from gunshot wounds. Law enforcement officials stated that those victims were not related to the suspect and appeared to have been targeted individually.
In total, six people were killed across the three homes, with no reported injuries beyond the fatalities.
Suspect Arrested After Manhunt
Authorities identified the suspect as a 24-year-old Mississippi resident. He was apprehended later Friday night following a coordinated search involving the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Mississippi Highway Patrol, and other law enforcement agencies.
Officials said the suspect was taken into custody without incident at a traffic stop. A firearm believed to have been used in the shootings was recovered during the arrest, though ballistics testing is ongoing.
