John Leguizamo has shared a surprising story about Madonna and Sean Penn.
The actor said Penn once told him that Madonna had a crush on him. Leguizamo shared the story on Kelly Ripa’s
Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast.
The story goes back to 1989. That year, Leguizamo and Penn worked together on
Casualties of War.
Sean Penn Told Leguizamo About Madonna
Leguizamo said Penn told him that Madonna liked him. At the time, Madonna was married to Penn.
Leguizamo was also dating someone else. So, he did not pursue Madonna.
However, Madonna did not confirm the story herself. Leguizamo said Penn was the source of the information.
Leguizamo’s Early Connection to Madonna
Leguizamo first crossed paths with Madonna years earlier.
In 1984, he appeared as an extra in her “Borderline” music video. At the time, he was still new to acting.
Leguizamo said he hoped to meet Madonna on the set. Instead, he stayed with the other extras.
Still, that small role became an early link between the two stars.
Madonna and Leguizamo Later Became Friends
Leguizamo said he and Madonna later became friends. He also recalled having dinner with her in London and Manhattan.
Other stars joined some of those dinners. For example, he recalled meeting musician Lenny Kravitz at one gathering.

Leguizamo also joked about his “Borderline” appearance. He said he would like to appear in another Madonna video.
