“Patient Zero.” The song explores toxic relationships, resilience, and leaving harmful situations.
The track arrived Friday, September 25. Meanwhile, it serves as the lead single from
The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore. In addition, the expanded edition adds four songs to Swift’s 2025 album.
Swift Releases “Patient Zero”
Swift announced “Patient Zero” on September 22. Before the release, she teased fans with a countdown and social media clues.
Soon after, she shared a 13-second preview of the music video. The video features Swift, Dakota Johnson, and Colin Farrell.
Meanwhile, the full video is set to premiere during the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27.
Song Explores Toxic Relationships
“Patient Zero” follows a woman involved with a charismatic but toxic man. In the song, Swift’s narrator suggests she knows the situation well.
At the same time, the song focuses on recognizing harmful behavior. It also highlights the strength needed to leave.
Furthermore, the track explores recovery after a damaging relationship. Instead of watching from the outside, the narrator speaks from experience.

The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.
Along with “Patient Zero,” the edition includes
“Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding,” and “Babylon.”
Swift said the songs came from a trip to Sweden. There
, she worked with longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback.
The group went to Sweden to celebrate the album’s success. However, the trip soon became a new studio session.
As a result, Swift and her collaborators created four more songs.
Notably, the expanded album arrives less than a year after
The Life of a Showgirl. The project is an expanded version of Swift’s 12th studio album.
Swift Prepares for the MTV VMAs
The release comes ahead of Swift’s appearance at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
