Associate General Counsel, AB&C Duties: Provides legal advice, guidance, and support to ensure that the assigned line of business/function exposure to legal risk is managed. Identifies, formulates, coordinates, and communicate policies, procedures and controls to ensure that the assigned line of business/function exposure to legal risk is effectively managed. Oversees legal support for a line of business, or function, supervising a team of legal counsel and legal support staff. Provide counsel on a variety of legal matters including matters that are quite complex or have potential for significant impact on the organization. Advise assigned lines or business/function by ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice is provided in a cost-effective manner. Implement legal policies to ensure that the company's exposure to legal risks is managed appropriately. Customers / Stakeholders. Provide prompt, commercial, practical and high quality complex and or specialized legal advice to assigned line of business/function. Be pro-active in the provision of legal support and in advising the business promptly of material legal developments and their implications. Ensure General Counsel is fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business areas and major legislative changes in area of expertise. Provide legal consultation in the development phase of products/ services or development of polices and procedures that internally impact the company. Recommend selection and supervise panel law firms and other appropriate external parties as required. Leadership and Teamwork. Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with all team members within assigned line of business/function. Lead, manage, review, guide and support junior lawyers and/or support staff that report to the jobholder. Participate in the coordination and promotion of initiatives that result in the sharing of legal knowledge and best practices across the Regional / Global Legal Function. Operational Effectiveness and Control. Provide legal services in a cost-effective manner. Co-ordinate and manage the approach to legal risk for assigned line of business/function to ensure that the interests of the Group are adequately protected. Implement legal risk management policies and controls in relevant business areas. Assist the business to remain compliant with legal risk management requirements set out in the Group Standards Manual and Legal FIM. Maintain awareness of the operational risk scenario associated with the role and to ensure that all actions during employment with account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring. Provide leadership over all regulatory and compliance matters and the management of operational risk for assigned line of business or function. Qualifications: JD Degree as well as admission to applicable state Bar and pertinent levels of courts in applicable states. 10+ years' proven and progressive corporate legal experience, or equivalent. Management experience preferred. Strong advocacy, negotiation, managerial, interpersonal, organizational, legal research and verbal and written communication skills. Ability to quickly apply abstract concepts of law and make quick, innovative decisions to resolve problems. Ability to defend the Company and Group affiliates from claims and advocate their interests while maintaining their reputation for honesty and integrity. Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent mainframe systems and software packages .
