Corporate Attorney The candidate will advise on membership marketing initiatives and ensures they are in compliance with our legal standards, as well as advising on innovative membership initiatives around engaged lapsers and special renewal and discount offers. Will work closely with the Procurement team on reviewing and negotiating contracts that fall into the big-dollar and/or high-risk categories previously identified by OGC. Will serve as a key member of the OGC group supporting the state offices, handling a wide range of requests ranging from MOUs, collaborations, sponsorships, events, and other issues as they arise. Will provides support for the AARP Events team and the AARP Driver Safety Program. Will handle other projects as they arise, including some projects from the AARP Innovation team. Will exhibits AARP values and leadership behaviors at all times.

The candidate must have J.D. degree plus a minimum of 6 years experience. Preference for specialized experience in nonprofit law, in contract negotiation, in consumer protection and advertising, and/or in membership rules. Must be, or be able to become, a member in good standing with the District of Columbia bar. Should have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have ability to make formal presentations to management, to think on one s feet and clearly express arguments and ideas in meetings, and to provide engaging, clear, training for staff who may have minimal legal background. Must be highly analytical, able to analyze complex issues and see the crux of the issue through all the swirl around it. Able to hold his/her own ground in the face of pressure. Must have ability to function independently with limited guidance. Must function with the highest degree of integrity and ethical standards. Passion for our nonprofit mission a definite positive. Must have ability to handle multiple, high-level complex projects on an ongoing basis, with strong attention to detail. Must be customer-oriented, a team player, approachable, responsive, and engaging.
