Counsel - Corporate Duties: Attend trials, corporate depositions, key hearings, settlement conferences and other major events in matters under management. Work cooperatively with outside counsel to provide strategic advice and assist with other case-related activities. Review and revise all pleadings in assigned cases. Cultivate relationships with business colleagues to develop cases, understand the facts, and prepare key witnesses for potential testimony. Manage cases to budget, review invoices, and communicate variances. Work with insurers and insurance counsel to maximize insurance recovery. Provide advice regarding MSHA citations, product stewardship, and health & safety compliance assistance. Develop expertise and assist clients regarding environmental matters. Assist in the development of annual legal budgets for all managed litigation. Identify and assist with the selection of outside counsel.
Qualifications: JD Degree from a highly regarded law school. Complex litigation practice at a highly-regarded law firm. 3+ years of experience as a litigator or manager of litigation. Licensed to practice law or able to become licensed in the State of Georgia. Significant experience on teams defending businesses in litigation, specifically coordinating among multiple lawyers or law firms on the same matter. Substantial experience with products liability litigation, mass torts, and multi-jurisdictional litigation (other forms of complex litigation are acceptable). Interest in a broad range of litigation matters and the related legal principles. Strong understanding of basic business principles. Ability to manage complex workload and prioritize appropriately. Ability to work well and collaborate with others, particularly members of a worldwide legal team, and to work in a multicultural environment. Ability to work well independently and identify opportunities to create and improve systems without direction. Highly developed organizational and analytical skills. Keen attention to detail and curiosity to learn the root causes behind a dispute. Strong interpersonal communication skills, both informal and in presentation. Ability to maintain confidential information. Excellent persuasive writing ability. Ability to efficiently and proactively manage outside counsel. Strong computer skills Google Suite, Excel, Power Point, Word, online research tools, practice technology tools such as docket management systems.
