Counsel, Employment The candidate will provide pragmatic legal counsel as a business partner on the full range of employment, compensation and benefits issues. Will serve as a trusted advisor to, and be the primary point of contact for legal issues for, the People Team. Advise business partners, particularly colleagues in the Human Resources department, on a broad range of compensation, benefits and employment matters, including: discrimination and retaliation, ADA / FMLA, wage and hour laws, contractor v. employee issues. employee discipline and termination, and structuring of incentive compensation, including equity awards. Oversee global compensation, benefits and employment matters with the support of outside counsel and regional in-house lawyers. Review, negotiate and draft legal documents with respect to employee compensation and benefits, including equity incentive plans and award agreements, employee handbooks and policies, as well as employment, consulting and severance agreements. Create programs to train the Human Resources department on a full range of labor and employment matters. Provide oversight and counsel on the Human Resources department's internal investigations. Formulate legal strategy and supervise outside legal counsel regarding employment-related litigation. Attend and/or assist mediation, arbitration, litigation and other proceedings on behalf of company related to employment-related claims. Interpret laws, rulings and regulations relating to compensation and employment for application to company's employee population, to ensure compliance and to manage risk around employment matters. Prepare materials for meetings of the board of directors and the compensation committee regarding compensation and employment matters, including executive compensation and equity awards. Provide specialist support on company acquisitions and other transactions, advising on compensation and benefits aspects of the deal.

The candidate should have a J.D. degree from an accredited law school. Admission in good standing to the New York Bar or member in good standing of another State Bar and registered as in-house counsel is required. Must have 3+ years of experience at a law firm and/or an in-house legal department (a combination is preferred) with substantial experience in US employment, compensation and benefits law. Familiarity with California and international employment, compensation and benefits law a plus.
