Senior Counsel Employment & Litigation The candidate will serve as an integral member of the company s litigation team, focusing on employment law counseling, litigation, and HR compliance. Work closely with Business Leaders, HR, Legal, the Global Security Organization (GSO) and others in the company s global organization on providing daily advice and counsel on a wide range of employment law issues, managing a high volume of employment disputes, charges and litigation, leading internal employment investigations, providing legal review for critical HR initiatives, proactively identifying key employment law and HR compliance risks, and driving key HR compliance efforts. Provide daily advice and counsel to various company business units and functions on all employment law issues, with ability to directly address questions within the U.S. with limited external counsel advice, and to support HR addressing questions with assistance as needed from outside counsel globally. Manage substantial volume of individual employment law claims, charges and lawsuits, and any employment class action litigation, and serving as primary point of contact with engaged outside law firms. Manage regulatory inquiries, investigations and charges in areas of employment law, including directly handling interactions with relevant regulatory agencies. Provide legal analysis on global or regional HR initiatives, to assess legal permissibility, identify and mitigate any legal or compliance risks, and guide HR on operationally balancing business needs and risks. Develop and update employment law / HR compliance policies and training, and formulate additional avenues and resources to provide guidance to HR on employment law and HR compliance issues and best practices. Track developments in employment law, HR compliance, regulatory enforcement and litigation trends, proactively identify key risks, and develop and implement solutions to mitigate risk and ensure HR compliance. Responsible and accountable for HR compliance, and active participation in HR compliance governance. Bachelor's and Juris Doctorate degrees required. State Bar membership required (may be NJ limited in-house counsel license) required. 8+ years of law firm (preferably with top law firm) or relevant in-house experience required. Preferred practice areas (global experience preferred): employment & labor, compliance, litigation (class action litigation and jury trial experience preferred). Solid academic record, strong analytical skills, and outstanding level of personal integrity and ethics required. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills able to give and receive constructive feedback, work comfortably across organizational boundaries, quickly gain the credibility and respect of associates at multiple levels, work independently, influence outcomes and effectively communicate verbally and in writing at the highest level of the organization required. Must be able to work on a large number of projects simultaneously, work under pressure to meet deadlines and take substantial responsibility for completion of projects (project management skills preferred). Must be able to propose solutions to problems taking into account both compliance and business concerns. Proficiency in e-discovery and forensic investigations required. Expertise in general employment law matters in the United States, with meaningful experience in providing advice and counsel globally, including any experience engaging and partnering with outside counsel who can provide local country and region knowledge of statutory law and workers councils interactions required. Direct and substantial experience serving as litigation counsel of record defending employment litigation required.
