Counsel, Corporate The candidate will be responsible for providing legal guidance and counseling to business and functional teams in US, Canada, and Latin America as well as handling legal projects, drafting, negotiating, and interpreting commercial agreements, and handling other legal matters all under the supervision of the Managing Attorney, Legal. Embrace professional standards and Compliance and Ethics values and policies and valued as a business attorney and a strong, collaborative team player. Assist the Managing Attorney with providing legal service to management on a broad array of complex issues relating to the company's business with minimal direction. Proactively review, analyze, and remain current on a broad range of federal and local legal matters, providing appropriate legal advice across US, Canada, Latin America. Serve as SAI Privacy and HIPAA SME (subject matter expert) providing internal support and proactively fulfilling customer privacy requirements to successfully execute partnerships, support deals, and complete business transactions. May have responsibility for coaching or supervising paralegal/support staff on individual projects. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of, and familiarity with, the business, its people, products, markets, facilities, customers, and competitors, and utilize that knowledge in providing guidance and counsel to internal clients. Establish rapport and a working relationship with executive management and staff at all levels to encourage and continue the proactive use of in-house legal counsel where appropriate. Perform special assignments or projects with minimal supervision. Manage external counsel/legal staff as appropriate. Additional duties as assigned. Bachelors degree in Business, Accounting, Information Systems, or related field preferred. Should have 5-7 years of work experience as in-house counsel or related (such as commercial) private practice area. Must be License to practice law in Illinois. Should have JD degree from an ABA accredited law school. MBA or LLM desirable. Professional privacy certification (CHCP etc.) preferred. Healthcare industry knowledge preferred. Prior investigations experience desirable. Prior training experience desirable.
