Information Systems/Data Privacy Attorney Duties: Function as a member of a team of dedicated professionals providing legal services to businesses and functions from global headquarters. Will provide legal counsel on a wide range of topics with the potential opportunity to grow into new legal areas over time based on exceptional performance and results. Work effectively to utilize Legal Department as well as company expertise center resources when appropriate. Provide legal advice to members of the company s Information Systems, Human Resources and Purchasing functions on legal issues associated with data protection, cyber security and data privacy. Review company policies, programs and third party vendor contracts for legal risk and recommend updates and revisions. Serve as the global legal focal point for data protection, cyber security and data privacy compliance efforts across the Dow enterprise, including monitoring global data privacy regulatory developments. Counsel clients independently day to day, and when required manage external counsel on a project-specific basis. Support Dow IS and Purchasing clients in negotiations with third party vendors concerning complex procurement agreements, software license agreements, outsourcing agreements, and other corporate services contracts. Prepare and provide proactive training to IS, HR and Purchasing employees on legal topics.
Qualifications: JD Degree from a tier one or two accredited law school. 3-5 years of relevant work experience. Must be a member in good standing of the state bar association of Michigan or another state (with the ability to become a member of the Michigan Bar by reciprocity or by passing the Michigan Bar examination). Preferred: Privacy counseling, technology and information related legal experience, and privacy certifications (CIPP, etc.) are highly preferred. Multi-jurisdictional counseling experience including EU data protection regulations is preferred, as well as familiarity with data breach response and threat protection programs.
