Senior Attorney - Environmental Duties: Assist in the conduct of litigation and other matters relating to environmental and safety regulatory issues matters. Advise internal clients regarding legislative and regulatory requirements in these areas. Direct and collaborate with outside counsel. Conducts daily work in compliance with Colonial s safety policies and procedures. Demonstrates Colonial s core values of Safety, Personal Integrity, Respect, Innovation and Teamwork in completing work assignments. Work with internal clients on projects, compliance with regulations and other matters as assigned. Establish, maintain and strengthen working relationships with clients and outside counsel. Manage outside counsel. Perform special projects and assignments as needed. Draft pleadings, legal memoranda, reports, transactional and other documents, as requested. Review work product of outside counsel. Work with business units to produce strategic documents that reflect legal advice. Provide legal research and analysis on key issues as requested. Monitor and report on industry issues and potential impact on Company. Monitor and report on regulatory developments and potential impact on Company and recommend appropriate legal action in response. Participate as requested in emergency response activities, including any preparatory activities such as drills and respond as necessary as legal representative in crisis situations.
Requirements: JD Degree from an ABA-accredited law school. Membership in the State Bar Association as an attorney qualified to practice law in Georgia. 8+ years transaction legal experience with a concentration in environmental and safety matters. Deep knowledge of federal, state and local laws, particularly with respect to environmental and safety-related regulatory matters. Preferred: General litigation experience. In-house legal experience. Knowledge of federal court practice. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Sound judgment and decision making. Ability to recognize potential risks to the Company and forcefully advocate for creative, effective mitigants. Detail-oriented, responsive and results focused. Ability to establish and maintain productive, collaborative relationships with relevant stakeholders. Ability to work independently and complete tasks in a self-directed manner. Ability to function effectively in a deadline driven environment. Strong work ethic and initiative. Situational awareness. Safety oriented.
