Discovery Counsel (IP Litigation) Duties: Will have direct involvement and shared responsibility in all discovery-related aspects of U.S. and international patent disputes, in both judicial and administrative tribunals, from initial issue identification through resolution. Working in partnership with outside counsel, contract counsel, and other in-house attorneys and staff, will work as an active team member to develop and drive strategies in all discovery-related aspects of intellectual property litigation matters, including the collection of documents and e-documents; oversight of outside counsel engaged in discovery; drafting and implementation of review protocols; selection and management of contract counsel and document vendors; negotiations with vendors; optimizing cost, speed, and efficiency of personnel, processes and tools; quality control; and general and case-specific document and knowledge management. Will have hands-on involvement in such things as witness interviews, discovery (production, support and/or conduct of depositions, drafting of discovery responses), discovery motion and brief drafting, trial preparation (including witness selection and preparation, selection of trial exhibits, drafting of jury instructions, etc.), and participation at trial and on appeal.
Qualifications: JD degree or LL.M. degree from an ABA accredited law school, admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction and 2 years of experience practicing intellectual property law. Preferred: 4+ years of experience in hands-on management of complex discovery in U.S. intellectual property-related disputes in federal and/or administrative courts, the bulk of which involved biotechnology or pharma-related matters. Trial experience (bench or jury). Degree in the sciences and a working understanding of molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, cellular biology, protein chemistry or the like. Demonstrated management and leadership skills (including law firm or corporate experience having managed others) combined with a strong client service focus. Excellent analytic, legal drafting, and oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and in teams, work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-dimensional projects.
