Intellectual Property Counsel

Intellectual Property Counsel The candidate will be responsible for leading a variety of legal matters relating to intellectual property (IP) and Research and Development (R&D) activities, including overseeing patent committees, preparing and negotiating intellectual property related agreements, and advising staff regarding intellectual property and other matters related to the development of new products generally, while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. Should have a Law degree (JD degree or equivalent) with excellent academic credentials and a license to practice in the state of California. Must be admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Should have 7-10 years of relevant intellectual property and legal experience, including 3+ years of in-house experience with a medical device or biotech company. Other experience in a technology environment or with software for healthcare related applications is preferred. Should have strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Previous experience managing both hardware and software related intellectual property matters on a worldwide basis is required. Previous litigation experience is needed. Should have effective verbal and written communication and presentation styles to interact with diverse audiences, including outside attorneys, senior management and business associates. Must have expertise in counseling clients on best practices for R&D and manufacturing functions. Working understanding of privacy and other domestic and international rules and regulations applicable to medical device companies is needed. Educational background in mechanical, electrical or software engineering is required.
