Counsel, Employment The candidate will provide pragmatic legal counsel as a business partner on the full range of employment, compensation and benefits issues. Will serve as a trusted advisor to, and as the People Team's point of contact for legal issues arising from day-to-day operations. Assist and advise firm business partners, particularly colleagues in the Human Resources department, on a broad range of compensation, benefits and employment matters, including: discrimination and retaliation, ADA / FMLA, wage and hour laws, employee discipline and termination, structuring of incentive compensation, including equity awards. Performance management. Review, negotiate and draft legal documents with respect to employee compensation and benefits, including equity incentive plans and award agreements, employee handbooks and policies, as well as employment, consulting and severance agreements. Assist in the creation of programs to train the Human Resources department on a full range of labor and employment matters. Conduct or assist with investigations assigned to Legal or provide oversight and counsel on the Human Resources department's internal investigations. Interpret laws, rulings and regulations relating to compensation and employment for application to firm's employee population, to ensure compliance and to manage risk around employment matters. Detect patterns and raise potential areas of concern to superiors.

The candidate must have JD degree from an accredited law school and admission in good standing to the New York Bar or member in good standing of another state bar and registered as in-house counsel. Should have 4+ years of experience at a law firm and/or an in-house legal department with experience in U.S. employment law. Strong analytical, organizational and writing skills is needed. Able to understand business needs, demonstrate sound judgment and partner with the business team to proactively formulate solutions is must. Multi-jurisdictional and/or international employment, compensation and benefits law experience is a plus.
