Regulatory Compliance Counsel The candidate will be managing compliance matters and regulatory relationships of all Aflac U.S. insuring operations including but not limited to complaint responses (Claim and Non-Claim), examinations (Market Conduct, Financial, Comprehensive and Targeted); Product and Rate Filing Support, Regulatory Counsel/Advice (Guidance, Alternatives, Solutions, Advocacy), Regulatory Filings (Annual Statements, Bulletins, Data Calls, Inquiries, Surveys), and Regulatory Outreach (DOI s, NAIC, IRES, AICP, HHS, DOL, etc). Provides strategic and tactical counsel to all US operations and management relating to regulatory matters; Formulates and advocates Company s position on regulatory matters; Develops and maintains effective relationships with regulators to allow credible communications, proactive resolution of regulatory issues and to assure timely product and rate approvals. Shares primary responsibility for all of the Company's lobbying efforts advocating for our business interests with federal and state regulatory entities, industry associations, and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Serves as a key expert resource to public officials and associations as a method to advance Company s business interests; Identifies and develops Company s positions and lobbying strategies on priority regulatory issues and advances the Company's position on those issues to state and federal governmental authorities and within appropriate industry associations. Manages the Company's relationships with state and federal regulators generally; Assists with identification and evaluation of proposed legislation and regulations, including assessment of impact and development of appropriate response and effective advocacy. Shares responsibility for recommending and executing on state and regulatory activities; Provides direction to others, including business and management, regarding regulatory and public policy issues; Selects, assists and supervises outside counsel or other professionals as required. Partners with and supports efforts of the Company s Government Relations, Internal Audit, and Risk officers. Performs other duties as assigned. Must have J.D. (law degree) plus admission to practice law in at least one jurisdiction required and 10+ years of related experience including. Should have extensive knowledge and understanding of state, local and federal political systems and state and federal insurance regulation; solid knowledge and understanding of insurance issues and products, with particular focus on disability and workplace benefit issues.
