Associate General Counsel, Intellectual Property

Associate General Counsel, Intellectual Property The candidate will handle a wide range of IP-related responsibilities as assigned and supervised by the SVP and General Counsel, including participating in business, operational and strategic decisions involving IP strategy and related issues. Additional responsibilities include management of a large patent portfolio and several active contested proceedings; support of established R&D operations in developing and protecting IP; assessment of third parties IP; resolving IP issues arising in collaborations; clearance of public disclosure requests; management of outside counsel and supervision and training of staff as required. Should have 7-12 years of relevant law firm and/or in-house experience with biotechnology or pharmaceutical sciences companies. Ph.D. in life sciences required. Significant prior experience in most of the following areas is desirable: patent portfolio management, patent application drafting and prosecution, IP due diligence, freedom to operate assessments, formal and information opinions of counsel, pharmaceutical litigation and contested proceedings such as IPRs and European oppositions, regulatory exclusivities, patent/IP licensing. Prior experience with pharmaceutical trademarks is a plus. Should have excellent academic credentials, including Juris Doctorate degree and admission to USPTO and admission to, or ability to waive examinations for, Massachusetts bar. Must have familiarity with advanced patent search tools, such as Clarivate/Derwent, Epoline, PatentScope, PAIR, etc.
