Senior General Attorney (Claims Litigation) Duties & responsibilities: will assist in supervising railroad litigation, including general claims, and other disputes. Must be knowledgeable in the following areas of law: Federal Employers Liability Act, grade crossing litigation, trespasser claims, occupational claims, toxic tort, indemnity and insurance. Respond in person to emergency situations that may develop on the railroad. Assist with development of defense strategies for BNSF. Assist with trials on occasion. Duties also in also include supervision of Outside Counsel; liaison with General Claims Department; development of trial strategy and tactics; responding to subpoenas and demands for indemnity; and other litigation matters.

The candidate must have a graduate or bachelor s degree, Juris Doctor degree, and current law license (Texas preferred). Should have 8 years of relevant work experience as a practicing lawyer (in-house, law firm or government) with litigation experience, with personal injury litigation or relevant railroad legal experience preferred. Should possess strong negotiation skills and ability to build consensus and communicate compelling legal/business justification for position. Must possess excellent legal research, verbal and written communication skills and ability to handle complex and challenging assignments with extremely short turnaround deadlines. Experience writing and arguing sophisticated motions and briefs; taken and defended depositions, to include experts; conducted investigations, and has made court appearances. Trial experience is preferred.
